Billboards to be taken down on Route 13 in Salisbury
SALISBURY, Md. – If you frequently find yourself driving down Route 13 in Salisbury, chances are you’ve probably noticed the large billboards along the street.
You may be surprised to learn that soon, those billboards will be taken down.
The Maryland State Highway Administration needs to make room for a new bridge they plan on building near the Wicomico River.
The new bridge works well with the city’s plans to build a new walking and biking trail, plans that also focus on increasing pedestrian safety.
Salisbury Mayor Jake Day tells 47ABC he is glad to see the billboards go.
Mayor Day said, “Those billboards are highly visible right in the center and its an area that we’ve made a lot of investments to improve so the fact that the state coincidentally is negotiating to execute on this I think is good.”
We’re told the owner of the billboards is upset, but Mayor Day believes they will be fairly compensated.
