DBCC’s ‘Work To Beat Breast Cancer’ event pushes importance of screenings, key for early detection

DELAWARE – The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition wants to see more Delawareans screened for breast cancer.

To do so, the non-profit is hosting its Work To Beat Breast Cancer event. The event will include an onsite physician doing free clinical breast exams which is the first step in getting a mammogram.

Organizers say during the pandemic, there was more than a 50% decrease in Delaware for breast cancer screenings, which is why they’re pushing outreach initiatives like this to stress the importance of early detection.

“We’re finding now that people who are being screened, they’re actually finding cancer later on. This means if it’s not detected as early the treatment can be much more invasive,” DBCC Patient Navigator Skye Ryan said.

“We like to replace fear and doubt with education and that’s what we’re trying to do. This is a great opportunity,” DBCC Bilingual Patient Navigator said.

That event will take place Thursday, March 24th at the First Baptist Church located at 301 Walker Rd in Dover.
