Delmarva organization gets $300K for 2022 summer program to give kids a memorable experience

MARYLAND  -Horizons Delmarva is gearing up for this year’s Summer Learning program.

The non-profit provides academic resources to at-risk students to try to close the income-driven academic achievement gap.

Last summer, they joined forces with Wor-Wic Community College for a new partnership, exposing kids to a college environment, while giving them field trips, swimming lessons, educational lessons, and more.

The Executive Director said right now they’re looking for students and teachers to fill positions for this year’s program. Also, this summer is going to be even more exciting because they got a $300,000 grant from the Maryland State Department of Education.

“It’s going to allow us to go on some awesome field trips, it’s going to provide more hands on stem based material for the classrooms, it’s going to provide more support in our classroom for our teachers, so they can provide more experiences and engaging activities for our students,” Joe Laque, Executive Director for the program, said.

Laque said coming out of the past two years with the pandemic everything has been up in the air, so it’s been difficult getting teachers.
