UPDATE: Crash claims life of one in Rehoboth Beach

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – A crash in the Rehoboth Beach area Friday morning claimed the life of a Lewes woman.

We’re told just after 7:30 a.m., a 2019 BMW sedan being driven by a 68-year-old Lewes woman was traveling southbound on Coastal Highway, in the area of Rehoboth Avenue Extended. For unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed over into the northbound lanes before crossing the Bay Vista Road intersection and exiting the east edge of the roadway. The car then hit a curb and numerous DelDOT signs while traveling south off Coastal Highway. The vehicle then hit a steel handrail, traveled down an embankment, and hit a small tree.

Police say the 68-year-old Lewes woman was the only occupant in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.
