The Brightside: Sugar Scrubs by Minnie

LEWES, Del. – Being quarantined during the pandemic had many of us doing puzzles, watching movies, and maybe finding new hobbies. One Delaware 10-year-old not only found a new hobby, but turned it into a business.

“I make sugar scrubs, it’s an exfoliating product that helps with your skincare,” Minnie Pettengall explained. “Everyone was quarantined, and it was 2020, so I started researching, and the scrub thing just hit me.”

She took to the Internet to learn how to make exfoliating sugar scrubs and she says she was surprised by how easy the process can be.

“It’s a simple product that has all the great stuff, the sugars, high exfoliate, the Epsom salts get rid of all that pain, the coconut oil smooths out your skin and exfoliates,” Minnie said.

So she started collecting supplies and setting up her workshop, with her parents help, of course.

“I told them that I was bored, and I had nothing to do, and I thought this would be a good way to show my creativity,” Minnie said.

And created her own business, Sugar Scrubs by Minnie. She says being a business owner before she even becomes a teenager, makes her feel proud.

“It makes me feel good that people are wanting my product, considering I’m such a young age that they actually want to use mine,” she said.

Now you can find her scrubs in local shops like Surf Bagel, Kai Surf, and of course on her own website. She says she recently had her first overseas order, and after taking some time to figure out international shipping, she couldn’t be more proud to have her sugar scrubs into the hands of people even across the world.

“It makes me feel amazing, because I realize that I’m out in the world, everyone can see me,” she said.
