Fatal Harrington crash under investigation

HARRINGTON, Del. – State police are investigating a fatal crash that happen Tuesday afternoon.

Reportedly, the incident happened on South Dupont Highway around noon, when a Chevrolet Silverado was pulling a flatbed trailer with a lawn mower on top. We’re told the trailer detached and crossed into the grass median and collided with the front of a Nissan Maxima.

Police say the driver of the Maxima was ejected and hit a Nissan Rogue, that was traveling in the right lane, heading south.

In addition to the trailer detaching from the Silverado, the lawn mower also became airborne and slid off to the shoulder of the roadway.

The driver of the Silverado, a male  from Harrington was properly restrained and not injured. The driver of the Rogue, a female from Florida, was properly restrained and treated for minor injuries. However, The driver of the Maxima, a male from Milford was not properly restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Identification is pending notification of next of kin.

South Dupont Highway in the area of Tower Hill Road was closed for approximately 7.5 hours, while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
