The Alana Rose Foundation works to provide financial assistance for ill children

Children bounced around the Mid-Coast Gymnastics studio Sunday to support The Alana Rose Foundation.

The Alana Rose Foundation helps families who are in the hospital with children that are going through a terminal or life threatening illness. They provide financial support to those families and keep them together.

The foundation was started by Alana’s parents Kyle Prettyman and Alex Shoultes.

Their daughter was only one-years-old when she passed away after battling Leukodystrophy.

During her fight, they noticed many ill children were alone without their parents because parents were off working to pay the bills.

In honor of Alana, they wanted to help other families. Shoultes says when your child is fighting for their life, the last thing you need to worry about is things like car payments or electric bills.

The foundation says social workers direct the organization to families that qualify for their donations. They don’t hand money directly to the families but rather pay whatever bill it is directly.

With The Alana Rose Foundation, they’ve saved cars from being repossessed, saved houses from being foreclosed, and even saved electricity from being turned off.

It’s been almost a year since Alana passed away and through events like this one, they have already helped 54 families and donated almost $18,000 to those in need.

Shoultes tells 47 ABC, “We know that Alana is always with us and that she is picking these families because they need a miracle. And everyone in the community that contributes is being part of that miracle.”
