UPDATE: Del. State Police investigating fatal crash in Harrington, victim identified

HARRINGTON, Del. – A fatal accident that took place earlier this morning is under investigation.

Just before 8 AM Tuesday, a blue Dodge Dakota was reportedly traveling northbound on Ingram Branch Road, approaching a stop sign at the intersection of Whiteleysburg Road, while a teal green Lincoln Town Car traveling eastbound on Whiteleysburg Road approached the intersection of Ingram Branch Road.

Officials say the operator of the Dakota failed to stop at the posted stop sign and tried to make a left turn onto Whiteleysburg Road, subsequently hitting the Town Car head on. The Town Car caught fire in a nearby ditch.

The driver of the Dodge, identified as 86-year-old Philip Caliendo, of Harrington, was reportedly not wearing his seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Town Car, driven by a 33-year-old male from Galena, Maryland, was taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Whiteleysburg Road in the area of Ingram Branch Road was closed for roughly three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
