House fire claims life of Hurlock man
HURLOCK, Md. – An early morning house fire claimed the life of a Hurlock man on Tuesday.
We’re told shortly after 5 a.m., the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department and other mutual aid departments responded to 4315 Dolby Farm Road for a reported house fire. The fire escalated to two alarms and brought a total of 55 firefighters in to extinguish, with took approximately 90 minutes.
Officials located an adult male deceased inside the home. The victim was later identified as 73-year-old Harrison Evans, who resided at the home.
Further investigation revealed that the fire began in a bedroom, however, the exact cause remains under investigation. Investigators were also able to determine that smoke alarms were present and did activate at the time of the fire, but the home was not equipped with a fire sprinkler system as it was built prior to that requirement. Damage to the home and contents has been estimated at $100,000.
