Berlin to receive grant to demolish former Tyson Plant

BERLIN, Md. – The Town of Berlin has received a $500,000 Strategic Demolition Fund Grant through the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development FY2022 State Revitalization Program.

Governor Larry Hogan announced the award of more than $63 million in grant funding on Friday, through several state programs and covering a number of projects across the state. Berlin’s award will be used to demolish the former Tyson Plant building on the Heron Park property on Old Ocean City Boulevard.

“We were very excited to read the Governor’s Press Release and learn of the approval of our grant application for this project,” Mayor Zack Tyndall said. “Town staff worked very hard on the application, and we look forward to receiving the official notification of approval before proceeding.”

We’re told a formal Request for Proposals is underway for the potential purchase or development of two of the parcels that make up Heron Park, including the parcel where the building is located.
