Salisbury University allows grad cap decoration

Salisbury University students will now have the opportunity to show off their maroon and gold pride by decorating their graduation caps.
The university announced a test run for undergraduate students to decorate their caps starting in May. Officials say it's a great opportunity for them to have more self-expression on campus.
"It's a great outlet for them to express how they're feeling that day," said Interim Provost, Karen Olmstead.
"Even though commencements should be really dignified ceremonies…, we do think it's kind of a terrific opportunity to let them have that form of self-expression," said Olmstead.
However, students must have flat decorations on their caps so that they are not obtrusive. Also, they cannot be obscene or offensive.
Officials say that if the rules are not followed, future graduating students may not have the chance to decorate their graduation caps.
Olmstead said she hopes that the upcoming graduation ceremonies will be special for the University president Janet Dudley-Eshback, who will be stepping down at the end of the academic year.
