Salisbury Marathon to bring road congestion

Salisbury is gearing up for its first marathon on Saturday; however, roads are expected to be congested or closed during the event.
Officials say the Salisbury City Park will be congested at 8 a.m., and parts of South Park Drive will be closed for the start of the marathon.
For residents who live on Coulburn Mill Road, the entrance will only be available by taking Nutters Cross Road and Snow Hill Road.
Parts of Riverside Drive will also be closed during the marathon until 4 p.m. There will also be law enforcement and flaggers on major intersections.
There will also be courtesy shuttles to pick up runners, according to officials.
Officials say runners must prepare themselves for the race with water and carbs.
"[Runners] definitely need to hydrate, and that's not sipping on Gatorade – that's drinking water," said Jason Chance, the race director.
Chance said runners should also use sunscreen during the marathon. The marathon will end around 4 p.m.
