Fruitland house fire under investigation

SALISBURY, Md. – State fire officials say a Fruitland house fire was caused by juvenile fire play.

The fire was reported at around 5:25 p.m. Thursday, at a house located at 3288 Phillips Road. Firefighters responded to the scene and placed the blaze under control in under ten minutes.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the fire began at the top of the stairwell on the second floor and was the result of juvenile fire play. The home was surrounded by one story apartments and additional smoke alarms were provided to the occupants and surrounding neighbors to be placed in sleeping areas.

Total damage has been estimated at $7,000.
