Law enforcement warns against phone scam in Worcester Co.

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md.  – Worcester County authorities are warning against a phone scam after they say individuals are pretending to be representatives of a utility company.

The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office says on Wednesday, they received some calls regarding a potential Delmarva Power scam. Deputies say they determined that individuals are calling and claiming to be representatives with the utility company.

According to the report, the individuals are leaving call back numbers for anyone that asks to speak to a supervisor and they claim that the person needs a new meter installed at a cost of roughly $400.

Authorities advise the public to not release any personal information or agree to pay any money if they received those calls. If you receive this type of call, deputies say the public should call their utility company directly to verify.
