Alleged thief stopped by agitated pet in Salisbury; one arrested

A man was arrested on multiple charges after deputies say a cat was disturbed by the activity happening outside of a Salisbury home.

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says on Monday, around 1:00 AM, deputies were dispatched to a on Montleau Avenue residence for a reported theft. Deputies say the caller had been asleep when his cat became agitated at something outside the window.

According to the report, as the victim looked outside, he saw a suspect inside of his vehicle, stealing items. Once on scene, authorities report that they saw 32-year-old Jamie Ruark, of Salisbury, inside a neighbor's car.

Ruark then reportedly fled and was captured after a brief foot chase. 

Deputies say further investigation revealed that the 32-year-old stole items from four vehicles in the neighborhood.  The stolen items were apparently recovered.

Ruark was arrested and charged with four counts of theft and four counts of tampering with a motor vehicle.

He was taken to the Wicomico County Detention Center and released on personal recognizance.
