DelDOT: Expect congested roads and traffic for Memorial Day Weekend

The beaches aren't the only places that are going to be crowded Memorial Day Weekend.

If you're hitting the road, make sure you pack some patience because it's going to be congested.

DelDOT says that last year, they saw over 280,000 cars on Route 1 and this summer, they expect even more.

They also say that they're starting to see a new trend. A new peak travel time has moved up to Thursday because everyone is trying to beat the traffic back-ups.

Regardless Friday evening is always a mess and they don't expect this year to be any different.

DelDOT's Director C.R. McLeod says, "Just be prepared for heavier traffic conditions and to be patient. The key points is to buckle up, don't drink and drive, and give yourself extra time to get to where you need to go."

When heading out, Monday is traditionally the day where everyone leaves the beach resorts.

Starting from lunch time through the evening hours, expect more cars on the road.
