UPDATE: Police identify pedestrian who died in Del. crash; investigation ongoing

UPDATE: The Delaware State Police have identified 22-year-old Peter M. Rudnicki of Bethesda, Maryland, as the pedestrian that was struck and killed in a crash that occurred around 12:30AM Friday morning.

Authorities are investigating a Dewey Beach crash after they say a pedestrian died on Friday morning.
Delaware State Police are investigating a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian .
According to Delaware State Police, the incident happened around 12:30 AM on Coastal Highway, at the intersection of Keybox Road, south of Dewey Beach .
Investigators say a 2012 Hyundai Accent was traveling northbound on Coastal Highway in the right lane when a pedestrian, for unknown reasons, walked directly into the path of the vehicle.
The driver of the Hyundai was unable to avoid the pedestrian and ultimately hit him with the right front bumper, throwing him in the shoulder lane.
The car did come to a complete stop a short distance from where the pedestrian was hit.
Further investigation revealed that the pedestrian was was not in a marked crosswalk or carrying a light at the time of the collision.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by responding EMS. Alcohol and unsafe speed are being ruled out for the the 56-year-old driver. Troopers report that the Lewes man was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured as a result of the crash. However, police believe alcohol is a contributing factor for the pedestrian.
