St. Michaels denied second straight 1A championship, falls to Boonsboro

The St. Michaels baseball team was denied their second straight 1A championship on Saturday, falling 12-8 in 9 innings to Boonsboro at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Maryland.

The game was back and forth with Boonsboro taking a 1-0 lead, before St. Michaels came back to take a 3-1 lead after one. The Warriors would respond quickly, tying the game back up at 3 off a TJ Kalagher two run triple to knot things up at 3.

The teams would trade scores until the bottom of the 4th inning, when Saints senior Nathan Howeth sent a screamer over the left field fence for a 2-run home run to recapture the lead at 7-5.

By the top of the 7th, St. Michaels would be guarding a 8-6 lead. Once again, the Saints would be denied a chance to keep the lead, with back to back 2-out RBIs for the Warriors. After tying the game, the Warriors would break the game open in the 9th with a 3-run double by Josh DeRocher to take a 11-8 lead. They would add one more in the 9th, to take the 12-9 win.
