The Salisbury School Partners With Community-Based Organizations in Salisbury
SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury School, Upper School hosted their community service day Monday morning.
The school partnered with 8 community-based organizations across Salisbury, including Habitat for Humanity, The Salisbury Zoo, and HALO Ministry.
One group went to the MAC Center to decorate pumpkins and paint trees with older adults. The group also enjoyed some dancing, singing, and later played some interactive word guessing games.
Officials said the day of service helps connect different generations through stories, experiences, and the joy of staying curious.
MAC Inc. Community relations and Development Manager, Nick Cranford said, “We know how important it is for them to stay social and keep interacting with one another and we have a great partnership with the Salisbury School. They send in their students who get to hang out with the older adults, which is beneficial for both groups. The older adults really appreciate the energy and the youth that the students bring, and the students always learn a lot from the older adults, and they always really have a good time, so we’re really appreciative for them.”
For The Salisbury School student, Hayleigh Galeone, it was her third year doing community service at the MAC center. She said it was a pleasure to decorate and play games with older adults she’s come to know over the years.
“Getting to sit down and eat food with them too, just being able to listen to their stories and be able to talk with them because they don’t get to do that outside of here. A lot of them don’t have many people in their family to go home to. So, we’re coming getting to talk to them and a lot to them,” said Galeone.
