The Brightside: TidalHealth’s Pink Walk Honors Survivors Stories
DELAWARE – In the newest edition of the Brightside, WMDT spoke with breast cancer survivors at TidalHealth’s Pink Walk, an event to honor survivors’ stories and advocate for women’s health. Sponsored by Choptank Electric Cooperative.
Every step tells a story, TidalHealth’s Pink Walk brings people together to honor survivors, remember loved ones, and raise awareness on breast cancer.
Survivor, Veronica Web said, “I walk for me and so many other women. Look around you, that’s who I’m here for.”
Survivor, Caitlin Patton said, “I walk for me and I walk for my son, and I walk for every woman who has been diagnosed with breast cancer or will be diagnosed in the future.”
That pink ribbon may seem small and cute, but behind each one is a story of courage, hope, and resilience. For survivors, this walk is personal.
For Veronica Web, her journey started with a routine checkup.
“I was told it was a very aggressive cancer, so I needed to be aggressive as well and so that’s what I did. I got diagnosed on a Thursday. I was in surgery on Monday. From there I went through chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy. But today I stand cancer free,” said Web.
She said her family, faith, and early detection made it possible for her to be standing in a Pink Walk, in October 2026. Patton was about a year and a half into motherhood.
“Originally when I found the lump, I wrote it off as a change from breastfeeding, and thankfully that denial only lasted about 24 hours,” said Patton.
10 days later, she had an answer. Petton said the best thing a woman can do for herself is advocate for her health and get a mammogram.
Patton said, “I am still here today because I advocated for myself, a breast exam, even in younger women, is a critical part of seeing your annual OBGYN visit.”
As these women walk to support breast cancer awareness month, they are reminding ladies to prioritize what matters.
TidalHealth Nanticoke President Penny Short said, “That’s the thing about October is really to make sure we’re focusing on and bringing attention to breast cancer awareness so that they will pay attention to themselves.”
