Ocean City Police Department Begins “No Drone Zone” For Country Calling Festival
OCEAN CITY, Md. – As thousands of fans attend the Country Calling festival, Ocean City Police Department is making sure the weekend is safe, by enforcing the “No Drone Zone.”
The OCPD announced the zone ahead of the festival, which is in affect from Friday Oct. 2nd to Saturday Oct. 3rd, from 11 a-m to 1 a-m.
The zone is a temporary flight restriction for a one-nautical mile radius from Somerset Street down through the inlet.
Ashley Miller of the Ocean City Police Department reminds visitors to leave their drone at home.
“Drones are cool.” Said Miller. “They produce amazing photos, however, if something goes wrong with it and it falls into the large crowd, it can be very devastating and have a lot of impacts. On top of that, people don’t always have the best of intentions with crowds. And you know, we want to make sure that we’re deterring any unlawful behavior and unsafe behavior.”
Traffic patterns will also be altered during the event, explained Miller. With closures expected south of the Route 50 bridge.
“We want to push all vehicle traffic up north of North Division Street.” Said Miller. “And what that does is it kind of creates that sterile environment that we want. So we know that when the concert lets out after 11, we’re going to have a lot of pedestrians.”
