Meet the Candidates: Dorchester County District 3

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – The race for the 3rd District on Dorchester County’s council comes down to two men.

For the Republicans, local business owner, Grady Wilson Jr. He introduces himself to WMDT, saying, “I was born and raised here in Dorchester County. I’ve lived here all my life, and I can contribute to things like bring an economic development in here so we don’t have to keep raising taxes.”

And for the Democrats, long-time incumbent Councilman, Ricky Travers, serving the county since 2005.

Travers tells us he’s running for re-election, because,”…I just really felt like I could be in there to help the community. And since I’ve been there, you know, there’s been ups and downs, but I really feel good with the group that we have right now.”

One of the issues both Councilman Travers and Grady Wilson say they want to focus on is bringing money into Dorchester County. And both candidates gave us an idea on how they not only want to bring money into Dorchester, but keep it here as well.

Travers says his focus is on bringing more residents into the county by making sure county services are getting the money they need to operate at their best.

He says, “Because that’s what drives the county. You know, property taxes drive the county. So if we can get more people to move here and more residents build more residents, then we can certainly help Dorchester County.”

While Wilson wants to making sure the county’s fiscal house is in order.

“The paperwork that we need to file to get our audit straight, because with the audit not being filed, the bond rating with Dorchester County, we’ve lost it. And you’d need a good bond rating if you need to borrow money.”
