Hurlock Preparing for Special Fall Festival
(HURLOCK, Md) – It’s all hands on deck, or rather on track in the town of Hurlock. Members of the community are preparing for the annual Fall Fest this weekend. This year’s event promises to be special as they celebrate Hurlock’s anniversary.
This year’s Hurlock Fall Fest promises something different.
The anniversary of the town’s founding is punctuated with a ribbon cutting for the town’s history museum at the train station.
“We officially opened the train station museum in July for the fourth. But this is something spectacular because they decided to do a ribbon cutting for us the day of Fall Fest. That’s when 3,000 to 5,000 people will be coming into our town,” says Hurlock Mayor, Earl Murphy.
And to mark the occasion, members of the community, whether they are employed for the town, or live there are pitching in to help get the museum ready to go for Saturday.
Hurlock resident T.J. Higgins encourages his neighbors to come out.
Higgins tells WMDT, “Everybody sees what we’re doing, and you just have to get the spark that lights the fire. When people see that we’ve taken this seriously and we get to put this much care into the local landmark, everybody wants to step up. They want to help. They want to donate their time, money, resources. And you see it here today.”
To celebrate the town’s history like this with the ribbon cutting on the anniversary makes long-time town residents feel a sense of pride.
“The celebration of the ribbon cutting on the town’s founding is a wonderful memory that we can present for many years to come,” says Mayor Murphy.
Festivities begin in Downtown Hurlock, Saturday, October 3rd at 10 A.M.
