Greyhounds Reach the Beach for the 32nd Year in Rehoboth

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.– This year marks the 32nd year of the Greyhound Reach the Beach event at the Rehoboth Beach convention center.

The goal of the event is to provide education, socialization, and providing fulfillment for retired racing greyhounds.

Organizer Dana Peterson says this event brings people from all over the United States and Canada for a weekend of fun.

“So we have folks come from Canada and Michigan and Indiana, and Texas from all over,” Peterman said. “And then we also have thirty vendors who are selling dog stuff so the event is to support the vendors and then everyone brings their dogs.”

Not only does the event bring the greyhound community together, it also contributes to the Delaware beach economy.

“So it’s the off season and the hotels are full, the beach houses that are rentable are full,” Peterman said. “The restaurants get business that they may not automatically get in October, it’s just amazing for the economy.”

Long time attendee of the Greyhound Reach the Beach event Lori Martin says what brings her back year after year is the sense of community the event offers.

“You get to meet people, and there’s awesome speakers that bring new and exciting information,” Martin said. “But mostly the camaraderie that we have and share among the greyhounds.”

The annual Greyhound Reach the Beach event brings greyhound owners and their four-legged friends opportunities for walks, meet and greets and countless of fun opportunities throughout the whole weekend.
