Cambridge Police Seek Public Assistance in Armed Carjacking Investigation
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The Cambridge Police Department (CPD) is investigating an armed carjacking that occurred in the 1200 block of Chestnut Place.
Just before 10:00 p.m. on Sept. 25, officers responded to a reported carjacking. The victim told police that they exited their vehicle while parked in the lot of Cambridge Commons. When they exited the vehicle, they heard commotion coming from the woods behind them. The victim then observed a male subject, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled tight to his face, pointing a handgun and ordering the victim to get on the ground. The victim then told police that approximately nine other subjects approached, with four of them possessing handguns. While laying on the ground, the subjects took the victim’s vehicle keys, went through their pockets, and took multiple cell phones. The victim also reported that all of the subjects appeared to be between the ages of 15 and 18.
The victim provided officers with a vehicle description. An off-duty CPD Officer observed the vehicle in the area of Clifton Woods and reported its whereabouts to on-duty officers. As CPD arrived in the area of the Westside Bypass, the vehicle sped up in an attempt to flee officers. A short vehicle pursuit began before ending at St. Claire Avenue, where subjects fled from the vehicle on foot. Officers could not locate the subjects at that time; however, the vehicle was recovered and returned to the victim.
At this time, police say the suspects still have not been identified. However, investigators believe that a silver or light-colored sedan and a dark colored pickup truck may be involved with transporting the suspects.
Anyone with information relating to this incident is urged to contact the CPD Criminal Investigation Division at 410-228-3333.
