Salisbury University To Host Techstars Startup Weekend For Aspiring Entrepreneurs

SALISBURY, Md. — Salisbury University is hosting a Techstars Startup Weekend to help entrepreneurs transform their ideas into pitches.

The three-day event kicks off Oct. 30 at Salisbury University’s Guerrieri Academic Commons. Aspiring entrepreneurs are invited to bring their ideas, form teams, test concepts, develop business models and receive advice from business mentors.

Registration costs $25, and participants must be at least 18 years old.

Bryan Bordeau, assistant director of the Dave and Patsy Rommel Center for Entrepreneurship, said the event is designed for people with ideas that need some polishing.

“That’s what Startup Weekend is for. We’ve had 18-year-olds pitch up to 71-year-olds pitch, right? It’s open to the community. Great ideas are everywhere, and this is a unique opportunity — one weekend out of your life — to finally understand if this idea has entrepreneurship potential,” Bordeau said.

Bordeau said many people struggle with the question: Is my idea plausible?

“If anybody is on the fence or has apprehension, I was right. I’m a former entrepreneur, but I had apprehension of sharing an idea — where to start. I’m not an entrepreneur. I don’t have a business degree. I’m not technically savvy. That’s OK. This weekend is very early-stage founder-friendly. You don’t have to have a pitch deck. There’s no PowerPoint,” Bordeau said.
