Dorchester Council Member Outlines County Legislative Priorities
(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – The 2027 Legislative Session in Annapolis may be far off from peoples’ minds, but one county is already getting their ducks in a row.
The Dorchester County Council is putting together their 2027 legislative priorities list.
County Council members are bringing forth various issues they want to see addressed by state lawmakers when they convene in January.
Council member, Mike Detmer says the county council has a few issues in mind that they want to put on legislators radars.
Detmer tells WMDT, “We also are going to be talking about the possibility of making bow hunting a little more permissive. There’s an issue with priority preservation areas. And so far as it relates to solar and where solar can be sited and how much they were going to ask them to address.”
One issue Detmer wants to focus on is youth crime in Dorchester County.
“We all know juvenile justice and juvenile crime is a major problem in communities across the state. And here in Cambridge in Dorchester County. It’s not a theoretical. It is a real thing that’s happening, and change has to happen.”
The Maryland Legislative Session will begin on January 13, 2027
