Cambridge Remembers Captain Hinson at Memorial Service
(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – A community is mourning the loss of one of their finest, as people from across Cambridge and law enforcement from across the state of Maryland are paying their respects to Captain Shane Hinson, who passed away recently.
People we got a chance to speak to shared how they got to meet and know Captain Hinson.
“I’ve known Captain Hinson for many years, and he came up through the ranks with Cambridge City Police. I worked with him on and off quite a bit of time. Shane was just one of those good guys. There’s no two ways about it,” says Robert Phillips, a Retired Chief with the Rescue Fire Company.
While Jackie Bennett, a friend of the family tells WMDT, “I had the privilege of being the librarian at the high school when his middle son has been attending there, and my son is the same age as his younger daughter. They’ve been in classes together for many years. We get to see each other at gatherings for birthday parties and things like that.”
Many in the community who attended are hoping the captain’s family will get the support from the community…
“They deserve that support. They are a community family that has worked hard for our community, and they need that continue love and understanding as they navigate what the rest of their lives are going to look like,” says Jackie.
For someone who gave as much as he could to his community.
“Captain Hinson has been here for many years. He’s interacted with many younger, police officers coming up to the ranks. He’s he’s he’s just been at every rank he can be except the chief of police. And so he’s been a great influence for many, many people,” says Robert.
As the city says farewell to a longtime member of law enforcement.
