UPDATE: Bethany Beach Remains Closed Following Nor’easter

UPDATE: The Town of Bethany Beach has announced that their beaches will remain closed for another 24 hours.

Officials say beach ramps will continue to be closed as staff attempt to clear passages to the beach. They will issue another notice of Tuesday, Sept. 29, at noon after reassessing conditions.

Bethany Beach suffered significant beach erosion and other damage during the weekend’s Nor’easter. According to the Bethany Beach Fire Company, members responded to multiple reports of storm damage, including downed power lines and floodwater rescues for occupants trapped in vehicles.

BETHANY BEACH, Del. – The Town of Bethany Beach has decided to close their beaches to the public amidst blustery conditions impacting much of the peninsula.

In a post to social media on Thursday afternoon, the Town said the beaches would be closed through Monday, Sept. 28 at noon, at which time they would reassess beach conditions. Town officials urge residents and visitors to not attempt to walk or drive through any flooded areas.

The Bethany Beach Police Department said parts of the town were already experiencing flooding from the developing Nor’easter. Conditions are expected to worsen through the weekend, with a potential for rain, high wind speeds, and coastal flooding.
