(EASTON, Md) – For one local group, they’re celebrating a milestone anniversary in serving the Eastern Shore.

Shore Legal Access has helped people through a number of issues. From financial literacy to record expungement, they’ve served people from Easton to Princess Anne for 20 years.

It’s a milestone the group is proud of, after coming from humble beginnings.

Executive Director, Meredith Girard tells WMDT, “There was a need for access to the legal system for low income Eastern Shore folks. And they created what was then called Mid-Shore Pro Bono. And today we call it Shore Legal Access because we cover eight counties on the Eastern Shore, and we provide free legal representation for a whole range of civil matters.”

And accomplishing the goal feels the same whether members have been there since the beginning of the effort in the mid-2000s, or have been contributing for the past couple of years.

Laithey Winters has been with Shore Legal Access for two years, and she says, “I think it not only, helps them, but it also helps us to, you know, kind of realize that we can, you know, make an impact and we can make that difference.”

And to honor that 20 year milestone anniversary. Shore Legal Access is celebrating in a big way: Hosting a major fundraiser. They’re celebrating with a night of comedy, a change of pace form the serious work the group does.

“We felt like this was an important time for us to celebrate and for us to laugh together. And so we’re having a comedy night. We’ll have a silent auction as well. And we invite everyone in the community to come out and enjoy a fun evening with us,” says Meredith.

Tickets are still available for Shore Legal Access’ comedy show.
