Ocean City Repairs Beaches and Prepares for Country Calling Music Festival

OCEAN CITY, Md. – After a nor’easter damaged portions of the east coast, bringing coastal flooding, winds, rough surf, and strong tides to Delmarva, the town of Ocean City is working to repair the beaches and boardwalk.

Oceans Calling Music Festival was cancelled Friday, September 25th, after conditions from the nor’easter created concerns regarding the outdoor stage setup. Crews are now attempting to remedy beach erosion and relocate displaced sand ahead of the upcoming Country Calling music festival set to begin this Friday, October 2nd,  at the inlet.

Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan, emphasized the hard work of crews to clean up the coast.

“Public works has been out here all day.” Said Mayor Meehan. “Getting the sand off the boardwalk. Manicuring the beach. They’ve moved up the beach now. They’ve started work again, bringing things back up to par, down at, the concert venue. So right now, I mean, the weather looking forward, moving forward looks good.”

Mayor Rick Meehan says the town and the department of public works are working with festival organizers C3 Presents to insure that Country Calling is safe and successful this upcoming weekend.

“There’s a call every morning with the city manager and the C3 executives laying out what it is.” Said Mayor Meehan. “They still need to do, what needs to be done, what assistance we can give them, especially in the perimeter of the, concert area, if there’s sand that needs to be moved. You know, we’re working very closely with them.”
