Ocean City “Remembers, Reflects, and Educates” 25 Years After September 11th Attacks

OCEAN CITY, Md. – 25 years after the devastating terrorist attacks on September 11th, Ocean City Fire Department held a joint memorial service with the red knights motorcycle club, to remember, reflect, and to educate.

The ceremony was held at the Firefighters Memorial, where speakers shared their experiences from the day of the attacks. One of the most important aspects of the proceedings, was educating a generation, that was not yet alive in 2001.

Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company Fire Chief James Jester, recalls the day following the tragedy.

“We went to church more.” Said Jester. “We gave blood. You checked on your neighbor, and it’s it’s that feeling of belonging. It’s that feeling of of knowing that you are a different person then and trying not to fall out of that.”

Fire Chief Jester also emphasized the importance of educating younger generations about this tragic day.

“The generation that lived their, their time through it, once they’re gone, if they don’t pass on that information, unfortunately, every bit of, knowledge, every bit of information, every bit of remembrance will be gone as well.” Said Jester.

Kevin Knowles is a member of the memorial committee at Ocean City Fire Department, and explained the importance of continuing the memorial events, year after year.

“And we all, in in this at age 35 and above, know exactly where they were.” Said Knowles. “And the change, the changes in the world, the negative. But then the the positives of how people truly did band together and the patriotism that surged.”

At the firefighters memorial, off of N. Division Street, a piece of steel that was once a part of the World Trade Center is on display, to remind those who pass it, to never forget the lives and stories of those lost on September 11th, 2001.
