Groundbreaking for the US113 at SR/18SR/404 Intersection Project

GEORGETOWN, Del.– After a one month delay construction on the intersection of Route 113 and state routes 18 and 404 has officially commenced.

Secretary of transportation Shante Hastings says this new intersection has been needed due to the high volume of traffic this section of road sees daily.

“So we were seeing a lot of traffic volume at this intersection and we also have a lot of crashes at this intersection,” Hastings said.” So being able to make improvements in that is how the project kind of became a thing today.”

Hastings also wants drivers to remember to stay alert and cautious when there driving in work zones.

“I would encourage drivers to slow down as they’re entering the work zone and pay attention and be alert,” Hastings said. “Work zones change, sometimes on the daily and so you’ll see lane shifts and you will eventually see some closures.”

Mayor of Georgetown Angela Townsend shares her own experience from this intersection and hopes these improvements will help with traffic flow.

“I shop at this shopping center quite a bit, I usually go down the highway and I turn at the light,” Townsend said. “With the back up of traffic they block the intersection and you can’t get through so hopefully this project can help clear up the congestion.”

With construction now underway DELDot says this new intersection is expected to improve traffic flow and road safety in Georgetown.
