Dorchester County Preparing for Tidal Flooding

(CAMBRIDGE, Md)  – The impacts of this weekend’s Nor’Easter are being felt on the opposite side of the Eastern Shore as well, across Dorchester County, as plenty of Low-Lying areas like just off of Water Street in Cambridge are bracing for tidal flooding.

Dorchester Emergency Management Director, James Windsor gave WMDT an overview of the areas expecting tidal flooding impacts.

Windosr tells WMDT, “The only time we move out a moderate (Flooding threat) right now, according to National Weather Service, forecasting is the afternoon, high tide cycle down at the Bishop’s Head buoy which should be between 130 and 2:00 on Saturday afternoon.”

In addition to monitoring the southern portion of the county for flooding threats, Cambridge is also monitoring some areas for tidal flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

And some residents are preparing for impacts.

Residents like Ric Buckley who says, “I’ve only lived here six years. But like I said, it’s certainly not an uncommon occurrence, especially when the wind’s blowing this way. You know, the Nor’Easter is blowing right at us.”

The threat of tidal flooding will loom across Dorchester county into the weekend.

And Emergency Management is asking people to steer clear if water starts flowing fast.

“The biggest thing about the tidal flooding, and I know the people in South Dorchester, unfortunately, have, become accustomed to it at this point in the year. But the big thing is, if it’s moving water, please try to avoid driving through it at all costs. Moving water can take your vehicle off of the road with, very little effort,” says Windsor.

In the meantime first responders are on standby in the event conditions surrounding the tidal flooding worsen.
