Diakonia Recieves 250,000 Dollar Leadership Investment From Town of Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Diakonia has been serving those in need in the Ocean City community for more than five decades. The town of Ocean City is expanding their partnership with the non-profit, by investing $250,000 in their new complex.

Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan, explains how the funding will benefit the non-profits services, years into the future.

“This is an opportunity, I think, to really take the next step for Diakonia, and lead them into the future.” Said Meehan. “And that’s what’s so important. That’s why this is, I think, a very justified, contribution by the town of Ocean City,$250,000, spread over five years.”

The funding aims to expand upon their current efforts, and put all of their services into one place. Diakonia currently offers a food pantry, shelter, thrift store, along with offering program services.

Diakonia director Ken Argot, breaks down the details of the new complex.

“It will consolidate all of our services on one place.” Said Argot. “The food pantry, thrift store. So that can be really a one stop shop for people in need.”

Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan stresses the ever important services that Diakonia provides, and why the city continues to support their efforts.

“The problems that we face today continue to grow, and they’re the the one organization that’s really out there for not just Ocean City, but West Ocean City in this entire area that addresses the needs of those that are really the most vulnerable citizens of the area.” Said Meehan.

The project will cost an estimated 7.3 million dollars. Director Ken Argot says the non-profit has currently raised 5.6 million dollars through pledge grants, and now look to raise the remaining amount, through fundraising events, like their upcoming “Hope, Reimagined” kickoff at Seacrets on November 6th.
