Coastal Flooding Warnings and Strong Winds Impact Ocean City Ahead of Oceans Calling

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Just days before Oceans Calling, the 3-day music festival that brings thousands of visitors to the Ocean City area, a coastal flood warning has been issued until Friday morning.

In a statement to WMDT, Worcester County Emergency Assistant Chief Katy Vieira stated that: “While excessive rainfall is not expected and the risk of flash flooding remains low, coastal impacts will be the primary concern as we move into a busy week for our beach communities and tourist areas.”

On areas such as the boardwalk, visitors like Eva Czmiel, are feeling the impacts.

“Oh my goodness.” Said Czmiel. “What she was just saying. The waves are probably six, seven feet tall. It is just so windy. The sand is like killing your legs.”

Worcester County Emergency Management reminds residents to “Never drive, walk, or play in flood waters because hazards may be hidden beneath the surface. Heavy surf and strong rip currents are expected. Only swim at beaches where lifeguards are on duty and ensure you know how to escape a rip current.”

In a statement to WMDT, the town of Ocean City’s Department of Emergency Management said that they will “continue to closely monitor weather conditions over the coming days and remain in communication with Oceans Calling organizers. We encourage visitors to monitor the weather and plan accordingly, particularly if traveling to Ocean City, and to allow additional time for potential travel impacts.”
