CHEER Center Promotes Healthy Aging Month
GEORGETOWN, Del.– The CHEER Center promotes healthy againg year round and say September is a great time to make a change since it is healthy againg month.
Program manager Jacquie Reilley says an important key to healthy aging is staying connected, and there daily activities are a great way to do that.
“We don’t want our seniors isolated,” Reilley said. “It’s really important to have a routine, and follow a schedule.”
According to a Surgeon General Report isolation is as bad to your health as smoking cigarettes.
The CHEER Center offers different physical activities, and puzzles as well as social gatherings to encourage those connections and to keep seniors minds sharp.
“The center directors have amazing activities and they want you to come to the centers,” Reilley said. “That to us is healthy and we will support your healthy aging and healthy lifestyle.”
For member Ruth Dorsey her favorite part about being a member is the sense of community.
“The people and my director,” Dorsey said. “And the people here, I love it, and it get’s me out of my house.”
From staying active to building connections or even trying something new, the folks in Georgetown are proving that age really is just a number.
