Cambridge Man Tased After Injuring Officer During Burglary Arrest

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – A Cambridge man was tased by officers after they say he assaulted them as they were attempting to arrest him for burglary.

On Sept. 14, the Cambridge Police Department (CPD) arrested 41-year-old Tyrone Anthony Cropper of Cambridge on charges of third degree burglary, second degree assault of a law enforcement officer, first degree assault, fourth degree burglary of a dwelling, and related charges. He is being held at the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond.

At 1:31 p.m., responded to the 700 block of Meadow Avenue after the City of Cambridge Code Enforcement reported a burglary in progress. Upon officers’ arrival, they searched the residence and confirmed no one was inside. Shortly after, police observed Cropper walking a dog on Academy Street heading to the rear of the residence before opening the door to enter.

CPD says officers were familiar with Cropper, as he was charged with burglary of the same residence on two previous occasions within the past two weeks. Police ordered Cropper to exit the residence, but he refused, instead slamming the door on officers attempting to follow in behind him. As a result, one of the officers’ hands went through a glass pane on the door, causing a severe laceration.

Officers attempted to subdue Cropper after discharging a department issued taser, placing him under arrest after a brief struggle. Dorchester County EMS both the injured officer and Cropper to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center for treatment. After being released, Cropper was transported to CPD for processing.
