Wicomico Civic Center Showcases New Renovations at Ribbon Cutting Event
SALISBURY, Md. – The Wicomico Civic Center hosted a ribbon cutting event on Monday, Aug. 3rd, to showcase the new upgrades to the historic event venue.
The civic center has been a pillar in the Wicomico community for over 60 years. Steve Miller is the director of recreation, parks, and tourism, and emphasized how important this venue is.
“This is the community gathering place.” Said Miller. “This is where people graduate. This is where people get married. This is where people vote. See their first concert, go to sporting events, play high school basketball, you name it. And this, this is where memories are made. So this is an important building in the community.”
The Wicomico Civic Center underwent $15 million in renovations, which included an expanded box office, cafe area, and utilized new space in the lobby area, protected by concrete safety barriers.
Miller said this project is the biggest renovation to the civic center in the past 50 years, ever since the building had to be rebuilt from the ground up.
“So it [Civic Center] was built in the 1950s, and then it burned down tragically in a fire in 1977, and the community really rallied together to rebuild it. ” Said Miller. “And that’s the building that we’ve known for the last 50 years.”
The first event at the renovation civic center is WWE NXT Live on Aug. 14th.
