Training Camp Day 11: Baltimore Ravens focused on Tight End Position Group
OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Day 11 of Ravens training camp was filled with great execution and immense worry. With High draft pick, Nate Wiggins carted off after a lower leg injury, top athletes like Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry were almost zapped of energy. Many players worried about the outcome of that injury, and the practice became about staying healthy.
Aside from that, the Ravens are really high on the tight end position. The tight ends spoke after the practice, and Zach Grossi, the new head tight ends coach made sure to tell media, that they are ahead of schedule.
With the team losing rising stars like Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar to free agency, there was worry in the offseason that they might not have the depth.
Grossi, though, the new hire who comes out of the Sean Payton coaching tree said they are doing just fine in development, especially with the offense built around the $39 million star, Mark Andrews.
“Mark is a fun guy to coach. He leads our room in a multitude of ways. His competitive nature, the way he prepares, the way he recovers, the way he attacks the day,
The Baltimore Ravens like to run multiple box sets with their tight ends. It is likely they will need the veteran leadership of Andrews and
new signee, Durham Smythe.
But what about the team’s new draft picks, Matthew Hebner drafted out of SMU. And Josh Cuevas out of Alabama.
Cuevas tells WMDT, that his time at Alabama makes him ready for the excellent standard that the flock organization pushes forward.
“As soon as so as soon as I got to the South and got to Alabama, you kind of felt that heaviness in your chest of what Alabama football was. As soon as you walk into the building, you walk in to the right. There are massive signs with all the championships on their SEC Championship, National championships,” said Cuevas. “You kind of feel that here as well. I mean, even when I’m out exploring in the city, you know, you kind of feel that, that heaviness of what, like The Flock is all about.”
This heavy standard will be integral in a successful season, If they want Lamar Jackson to be as versatile as he needs for this Baltimore Ravens offense.
Head Coach Jesse Minter said that his focus is the preseason opener, and players need to play with all their fiber, because nothing is a given.
“20, some guys are playing like there’s 33 spots up for grabs. And so it’s guys taking advantage of opportunities, trying to play within the identity that we’re trying to create.
