State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Laurel

LAUREL, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that killed a 41-year-old Laurel man Saturday night on Sussex Highway.

Police said the crash happened at about 9:20 p.m. Aug. 15 as a Toyota Camry was traveling southbound in the right lane of Sussex Highway near Oasis Drive. At the same time, the pedestrian was walking westbound in the right lane of the southbound highway when he was struck by the vehicle.

The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital, where he later died, police said. Authorities are withholding his name pending notification of his family.

The 21-year-old driver of the Toyota, who is also from Laurel, was not injured.

Sussex Highway was closed for about three hours while police investigated the crash and cleared the scene.

The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant video footage is asked to contact Master Corporal K. Argo at 302-703-3264.
