Salisbury Man Convicted of Distributing Cocaine
SALISBURY, Md. – A jury has found a Salisbury man guilty of charges related to the distribution of cocaine.
On Aug. 26, 42-year-old Deonte Lamont Grant was convicted of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of narcotic production equipment, simple possession of cocaine, and two counts of possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia. Grant will remain in custody pending sentencing, which has been postponed pending the completion of a pre-sentence investigation.
“Controlled dangerous substance distribution and crimes of violence far too often go hand in hand,” said Wicomico State’s Attorney Jamie Dykes. “My Office will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to identify and vigorously prosecute those who distribute controlled dangerous substances in Wicomico County.”
On Jan. 16, while investigating an alleged armed carjacking, Wicomico detectives obtained a search warrant for Grant’s home to look for evidence relating to the incident. Once inside Grant’s residence, law enforcement searched his bedroom and located a digital scale with white residue, empty plastic sandwich baggies, and a plastic bag containing several grams of cocaine. Also located in the bedroom was mail addressed to Grant, bank cards in his name, and Grant’s Maryland identification card.
During an interview conducted after Grant waived his Miranda rights, Grant stated that he is a drug dealer and confirmed the cocaine in the residence was his.
