Rep. Andy Harris tours Johnsons Pond Dam in Salisbury

Salisbury, Md. – On Friday, Rep. Andy Harris (R – Congressional District 1) made a visit to Salisbury to tour the Johnsons Pond Dam.

Harris met with city officials to highlight upcoming federally funded projects in Salisbury. The tour follows a $1.55 million award in Community Project Funding for dam improvements through the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill. Harris will also attend the Wicomico County Fair ribbon cutting ceremony later on Friday.

“I’m glad we were able to help, you know, the rural areas like Eastern Shore, Maryland, it’s like rural areas around the country frequently that don’t have a lot of money, To do some of the maintenance that’s required on infrastructure that can go back almost 100 years in this case,” Harris said in an interview with WMDT. “Make sure that we can deliver, whether it’s first responders, fire departments, a dam that needs to be, renovated. These are projects that I’m glad, you know, I can bring back home for the first district.”

Harris said he was also traveling throughout the Eastern Shore to visit volunteer fire companies to identify how to help secure funds from programs at the U.S. Department of Agriculture to secure newer equipment for them.

City of Salisbury Mayor Randy Taylor also attended and said he was excited to work with Harris’ office on the Johnsons Pond Dam project.

“Johnson’s Dam has been a long-awaited project, capital project for the city that we’ve been in design and finally completed and ready to fund, and with the help of Andy Harris’s office, we are going to be able to do that hopefully in the next 12 months,” he said.
