Record Freshman Class Moves in at Salisbury University
Salisbury, Md.– A record setting freshman class of nearly 1600 students moved into the residence halls Thursday morning, becoming the largest incoming cohort in the school’s history. Dozens of student athlete volunteers came out to assist families with the move in process, helping make the often-stressful process a smooth experience.
“Moving in has been great. Everything has been so organized and so structured. They’ve been so helpful. The R.A. has been helpful. So if there were any questions that we needed or anything like that, they’ve been very helpful,” said Corey Lee, a relative of a freshman student.
Other families echoed the sentiment.
“We were expecting a little bit more chaos, but everything was very, very well organized and put together. The help from the SU students getting all the stuff in the rooms was extremely helpful for my wife and I,” said Mark Bunting, a father of a freshman.
SU President Lyn Lepre said that other than commencement, move in day is one of the best days of the year. She added that the student athlete volunteers are one of the driving factors for the high energy atmosphere on campus.
The campus was rocking with music and excited freshman. Lepre said the class size and excitement for students attending SU is encouraging to school leaders.
“We’re really, really excited to see the momentum for Salisbury University. And so many people choosing SU and trusting us with their educational experience,” Lepre said.
The president added that this year students will be able to use the Blackwell Hall, which has been under construction for four years. The space will be a hub for students and is scheduled to open in January.
As move in day came to pass, Lepre offered a message to the parents dropping their kids off.
“What I hope is that though they are a little bit maybe sad to leave them with us, know that we have got them. We will take care of them. We will surround them with service and care. And I hope that they know that we will make sure that they start this journey and spend their next couple of years with us doing amazing things. So don’t be too sad. They’ll miss them. But we’ve got them,” Lepre said.
