Late Night Fire Destroys Federalsburg Church of Nazarene; Marshals Investigate Cause, Origin

FEDERALSBURG, Md. – The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating after a fire destroyed the Federalsburg Church of Nazarene late Wednesday night.

At 11:46 p.m. on Aug. 5, crews with the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company and other area departments responded to the church located on Houston Branch Road after a passerby reported a fire. While fire alarms were present at the building, they were non-operational at the time of the fire.

A total of 62 firefighters worked for an hour and 10 minutes to extinguish the blaze. The total damage to the building and its contents is estimated to be valued at $350,000.

Fire marshals continue to investigate the preliminary cause and origin of the fire. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the Upper Eastern Regional Office.
