Indian River Fire Company Reveals New Renovations

MILLSBORO, Del.– The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company are moving into their new accomodations after recently completing approximately $4.1 millions dollar overhaul of their Long Neck station.

Patrick Miller says the renovations are making a huge difference because of the growth in the Millsboro area.

“The modernization, the construction, the renovation is a game changer for us,” Miller said. “It enlarges our engine bays, our facilities, gives us training rooms, bunk rooms, bathrooms with showers. A world of change for the firefighters and volunteers that serve here.”

The Indian River Fire Company is staffed entirely by volunteers so the new additions to the station were essential for Indian River to be able to keep up with the growing community.

“The expansion it was necessary due to the abundance of growth,” Miller said. “With growth goes more emergency responses. The key thing to realize as people relocate here, we are one hundred percent volunteers.”

Volunteer Firefighter Charlie Johnston believes the new additions to the station will make his team better equipped to handle emergencies and he hopes the new renovations bring in new volunteers.

“It’s just great to have a new building,” Johnston said. “We actually have something new we have more space and more room for equipment in the building, and hopefully we can eventually get more volunteers.”

The Indian River Fire Company is hosting an open house on August 15th from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. where people in the community can come and see the new additions and learn more about fire safety.
