Harriet’s House Helps Human Trafficking Survivors Rebuild Their Lives

CAMBRIDGE, Md.– Harriet’s House is a non-profit focused on bringing freedom and healing to women who have survived human trafficking.

Executive Director Julie Crain says that Harriet’s House has a variety of resources women can use to rebuild their lives.

“We have an office in Cambridge open Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.,  where any woman in the community can come to get resources.” “We have a full stack of toiletry items and clothing items, and then we can help with any other needs that they have,” Crain said.

Harriet’s House Program Manager Jaliah Gamble says that she has seen a huge improvement in the confidence of women who have come through this program.

“When the women first came to our program they kind of lacked some skills and even their self-esteem was like kind of low,” Gamble said. “Maybe in like a year or two they were able to just feel better about themselves.”

Crain says their goal is to make sure anyone who needs support knows they can come to Harriet’s House and get the support they need no questions asked.

“We help anybody who needs help,” Crain said. “So you don’t have to have anything in your past that would cause you to come here, just if you need something we’re willing to help.”

Harriet’s House’s continues to raise awareness and educate communities so survivors of human trafficking can continue to get the support they need.
