UPDATE: DSP Locates Car in Seaford Hit-and-Run

UPDATE: The Delaware State Police have identified a vehicle of interest believed to be connected to the fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of 73-year-old Michael Barrett. 

The Delaware State Police began seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the car, now identified as a Chevrolet Equinox, on Jul. 31. But troopers now say they have identified and located the vehicle, but continue to look for and identify the driver.

UPDATE: The Delaware State Police identified 73-year-old Michael Barrett, of Seaford, Delaware, as the man who died in the fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred Friday afternoon in Seaford.

This crash remains under investigation.

SEAFORD, Del. – A 73-year-old Seaford man was killed Friday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene, according to Delaware State Police.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:10 p.m. Friday on Woodpecker Road, west of Butler Branch Road. Police said the bicyclist was riding eastbound along the south edge of the roadway when an unknown vehicle traveling in the same direction struck him before leaving the scene without stopping. 

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of family members. 

Investigators believe the suspect vehicle may have damage to its passenger side, possibly near the turn signal housing. The roadway remained closed for about four hours while members of the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the crash and cleared the scene.
