Georgetown Recognizes National Overdose Awareness Day

GEORGETOWN, Del.– August 26th is National Overdose Awareness day and Georgetown is hosting a gathering at the town circle to honor the lives lost and offer support to those that that are still struggling.

The night will include a candle light vigil, speakers, and other ways to bring people together so they don’t feel alone.

atTAck addiction has been around for thirteen years and their main goal is to change the stigma that surrounds substance abuse by educating people about the disease.

Resources available at the event include resources catered to specific substances as well as mental health resources.

President of atTAck addiction Dawn Hess-Fischer reminds those who are struggling with addiction that they aren’t alone.

“What I want people to take away from tonight is that they aren’t alone if they are struggling with substance abuse,”Hess-Fischer said. “I want them to know that they have a safe place to come and be together and allows them to talk to people who have been in recovery and that it brings hope to folks who are still in it currently. ”
