Marshals Investigate Centreville Pole Barn Fire

CENTREVILLE, Md. – The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating an early morning fire in Centreville that destroyed a pole barn.
Crews from the Goodwill Fire Company, along with surrounding agencies, responded to the structure fire on Wrights Neck Road around 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The fire was reported after the property owner noticed flames. Once on scene, crews found a a 60-foot by 120-foot pole building fully involved in flames, with an exposure to a horse stable.
Crews worked diligently to control the fire, conducting suppression efforts for over an hour and remaining on scene until around 7:00 a.m. The total damage to the pole barn and its contents it estimated to be valued at $450,000.

A pet rabbit died during the incident, but no other animals or people were injured.
Officials say locals may still see smoke in the area as the contents of the barn continue to burn and smolder.
Fire marshals determined the fire originated inside the barn, but are still working to determine the preliminary cause. Anyone with information regarding the fire is asked to contact the Upper Eastern Regional Office at 410-819-3500.
